Job summary

You will be joining a large multi-disciplinary team at the Haywood Rheumatology Centre which is part of the Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. As part of the role you will support in the medical care provision of specialist rheumatological treatment to patients attending the acute in-patient ward (at Royal Stoke University Hospital), day case (currently sited at Bradwell Hospital) and outpatients service (Haywood and other community locations) with support from the junior doctors and multi-disciplinary team. In this role you will be supported to take the opportunity to develop your skills and/or to support procedures such as joint injections and ultra sound scan under the supervision of Rheumatology Consultant / Consultant Sonographer and the wider multi-professional team.

Main duties of the job

  • Your responsibilities would include doing 5 Rheumatology (New patient, General Rheumatology and Sub-specialty Follow up clinics) clinics per week (there is scope to be able to use part of the clinic time to develop your skills such as ultrasound, injections, nailfold capillaroscopy, salivary gland biopsy, muscle biopsy etc)
  • You join the team of consultant and junior doctor colleagues as part of the unselected Rheumatology on-call (this is to cover calls for Rheumatological problems from the GP and the specialists at the University Hospitals North Midlands)
  • You will be expected to support the allied health professionals with the day to day functioning of the team (including signing of prescriptions and supporting with queries)
  • You will be expected to support the triage process and responding to the advice requested by GP colleagues from primary care
  • You will have opportunities to support with the educational activities happening within the department medical (undergraduate and post-graduate) as well as allied health professional teaching
