Cross-Sector Trainee Pharmacy Technician (Redwoods)

Job summary

This is a Trainee Pharmacy Technician post, you will be based in a cross sector role giving you experience of providing Pharmacy Services in different environments. Your main base will be in a hospital that provides mental health services and your second placement will be in a GP surgery, Community Pharmacy or in an Acute hospital.

The successful post-holder will follow a comprehensive two-year training programme under a Technical Service rotation covering all aspects of Mental Health Hospital pharmacy across; to include rotations within the wards, procurement, receiving and validating prescriptions, issuing medicines, dispensing prescriptions, medicines management as well as the requirement to undertake accuracy checking training. You will be expected to carry out training in both placements which you will use as evidence towards your studies.

A combination of both off and on the job training will be provided to enable the trainee Pharmacy Technician to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy, this is the qualification you will need to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Main duties of the job

  • Dispensing for both inpatients, outpatients and discharge medication.
  • Dispensing of stocks for wards, departments, other hospitals and community clinics.
  • Replenishment of dispensary stocks.
  • Insight into Medicines Management
  • The observation of stock control procedures.
  • Ward 'top up' services and stock control systems, where in place.

Youwill be given study time to achieve the knowledge component of the training program and you will develop your skills by undertaking on the job training.

This is a demanding role and will require study both in work and in your own time. The expectation is that you manage your time to facilitate the completion of your studies. You will receive full support from an Educational Supervisor and qualified pharmacy assessors to complete the qualification.
