The Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry is to join the Dementia and Older Adult MH Pathways, the service offers multiple clinical pathways providing comprehensive community mental health services to the Staffordshire WEST localities.
Main duties of the job
We are excited to share this opportunity to work as a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist within our dynamic and forward thinking Older Adults Community Mental Health service. We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with a passion for working with older adults with mental health difficulties.
The Older Adult Community Teams deliver care within Dementia and Older Adult Mental Health pathways, focusing on ensuring that service users are supported to remain in their own home wherever hospitalisation can be safely and appropriately avoided.
Working as part of a multi -disciplinary team you will provide active involvement in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of service user care, responding quickly to those referred with high-risk mental health and complex care needs. You will work with an established multidisciplinary mental health team to provide collaborative, effective, evidence based interventions at the right time, and the right place, with the right person.

You will cover a geographical sector of South Staffordshire. This post covers the areas of Cannock and Rugeley.
You will have input into various aspects of this well established Older Adult Mental Health service, carrying out assessments and implementing treatment plans for patients with both organic and functional illnesses. You will also work with the Hospital Avoidance Team for Older Adults, supporting patients with urgent needs to try and avoid hospital admission. You will be able to see patients in clinics, on home visits and also utilise telephone and video consultations.
You will take part in the third tier on call rota.
Working as a Consultant within the Multidisciplinary team and in partnership with third sector agencies, your duties will include:
- Providing specialist assessment and care planning in conjunction with service users and carers
- Evaluating treatment plans and undertaking discharge planning
- Responsible Clinician duties within the community team
- Being responsible for an agreed case load
- Responding to and informing referrers / other professionals as necessary on decisions, care plans, policy and best practice
- Providing clinical leadership within a collective leadership model
- Active participation in continuing professional development activities
