Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trained Nurse Colposcopist to join the Womens Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals to expand the existing Colposcopy team. This role is critical in ensuring a high quality the NHS Cervial Screening Programme.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic Nurse with the clinical and leadership expertise to ensure the delivery of high quality, personalised care to patients within our care.

This is a fulltime position and there will be a requirement for regular evening and occasional weekend working.

Main duties of the job

The Jobholder will carry continuing responsibility for a defined caseload, including the setting of standards of care. The jobholder will provide nursing expertise to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service as well as contributing to the strategic direction of nursing within the Trust. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The job holder will be able to actively manage her own patients, update and take medical histories, assess that patients cervix / vagina / vulva independently for any abnormal areas and take colposcope directed biopsies of the cervix / vaginal walls, cervical smears and vaginal / endocervical swabs. Following review of the results the post holderwill independently action treatments for cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions using loop diathermy, biopsy and polpectomy.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The job holder will independently review the patients histology / cytology results and take appropriate action.

Develop, implement, audit and evaluate patient pathways for Women undergoing colposcopy.

Develop / evaluate protocols for patients undergoing colposcopy.

Ensure the colposcopy service functions within the QA standards.
