We
are seeking to appoint an inspirational, influential leader who is confident
and dynamic, with experience of working at a senior level in maternity
services. The post holder will lead the intrapartum services. The successful
applicant will manage the home birth service and alongside Lotus midwifery unit
and the consultant led delivery suites.
The
ideal candidate will be visible with excellent communication and organisational
skills to provide senior leadership and coordination of the areas of direct
responsibility and support all other areas of the Clinical Service Unit as
required.

Main duties of the job
The
key purpose of the role is to support the quality and safety agenda, promoting
an organisational culture that is value based and focused on high quality care
standards underpinned by evidence based
practice and continual learning. Using strong leadership, communication,
influencing and negotiating skills you will lead in the provision of expert
advice, support and guidance to the maternity teams.
You
will be a role model and empowered to influence further developments in
Midwifery and respond to National Maternity Transformation plans across the
unit, acting as a liaison point and contributing to the continual development
of maternity services. You will have a passion for developing staff and
creating a learning environment across your wards and department and
demonstrate exceptional situational leadership enabling and empowering your
teams.

PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The
jobholder will have overall responsibility for the management of
nursing/associated staff and the management of midwifery resources/budgets
within the CSU or a part of it. The
jobholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical
care is provided within the wards and departments for which they are
responsible and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented at
a local level. The jobholder will work
in partnership with the facilities department in ensuring high standards of
hospital cleanliness is maintained, embracing the principles outlined in the
Matrons charter.
The
jobholder will be easily identifiable to patients, provide strong leadership
through a visible presence and provide support, advice and assistance required
by patients, their families and carers.
The jobholder will also support the implementation of the Patient Advice
and Liaison Service (PALS), being a focal point for advice to patients and
carers and local resolution of complaints.
Current
services comprise delivery suites on both SJUH and LGI sites. The jobholder has
through Senior Midwives direct management of midwifery and support staff. The jobholder has direct line management of
the specialist midwives within the CSU or a part of it. The jobholder is
responsible for the management of midwifery resources and ward and department
budgets.
