An
exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Womens Service at Leeds Teaching
Hospitals as a Deputy Head of Midwifery and Nursing.
This
role will support the existing senior management team and is integral to the
smooth functioning of the Maternity and Gynaecology services in the Womens
Clinical Service Unit. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic midwifery
leader with the clinical and leadership expertise to ensure the delivery of
high quality, personalised care to families within our care.

Main duties of the job
Managerially
and professionally accountable to the Head of Midwifery /Nursing the Deputy
Head of Midwifery / Nursing has responsibility for the leadership and
management of nursing and midwifery across the Clinical Service Unit (CSU).
This includes line management responsibilities within the CSU and the
management of specific clinical services/areas.
They
will work to support the Head of Midwifery /Nursing for all issues relating to
midwifery /nursing within the CSU and will be an integral part of the senior
midwifery / nurse structure within the CSU.
They
are responsible for decision making where practice or service delivery issues
arise within the CSU or cross speciality or when cross speciality leadership is
required. The Deputy Head of Midwifery /Nursing will establish and foster an
effective working relationship with the CSU Management team to lead
improvements in nursing, service delivery and the achievement of organisational
priorities within the CSU. The Deputy Head of Midwifery / Nursing will deputise
for the Head of Midwifery / Nursing on an as required basis.

organisational and national compliance standards.
The
Deputy Head of Midwifery / Nursing (Band 8b) will be responsible for the care
and professional practice delivered within a large CSU.
The
role of the Deputy Head of Midwifery /Nursing will include the requirement to
engage with partners outside of the organisation e.g. to collaborate in
city-wide and national improvement projects and developing relationships with
service users.
Services
provided within the CSU have a significant regional role in providing
healthcare and this is represented in the requirement for a Deputy Head of
Midwifery / Nursing post-holder to allow the Head of Midwifery / Nursing to
liaise regionally and align service provision at a strategic level.

- Significant experience as a senior midwife/nurse.
- Significant senior leadership experience in midwifery/nursing.
- Demonstrable evidence of specialist knowledge of the professional leadership and management of midwives / nurses/allied health professionals (pertaining to the area of clinical practice).
- Evidence of on-going and relevant personal and professional development in the last 2 years.
- Demonstrable experience managing clinical services and of leading improvements in clinical settings, patient care and experience across multiple specialities.
- Knowledge and experience of human resources management, communicating complex and contentious information to individuals and large groups.
- Experience of managing budgets and financial resources, including the associated processes such as budget setting, financial planning and making proposals for service developments across multiple area.
- Evidence of on-going and relevant personal and professional training
- In depth knowledge of the clinical governance agenda including clinical risk and safety.
- Specialist knowledge of midwifery or allied health professionals professional issues and care and service delivery.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of and continuing acceptance of the need for financial governance and probity.
