Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the clinical service within the Major Trauma Centre at Leeds General Infirmary. We are looking for a Major Trauma Specialist Nurse with an interest in providing a high standard of care and support to patients and their families whose lives have been affected by major trauma. As one of the busiest major trauma centres in the UK you will be caring for patients with a wide range of injuries and needs.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the care of major trauma patients from admission through to discharge and follow up. It is essential you are able to work under pressure, capable of working alone but also alongside the wider major trauma multi-disciplinary team, and an effective communicator. You must also be assertive, reliable and forward thinking as this is essential to the role. You will be acting as an advocate for patients throughout their journey and linking with professionals across the wider West Yorkshire Major Trauma Network.

We are a small team of Major Trauma Specialist Nurses with a unique job role that covers twenty-four hours, seven days a week so you will be expected to work nights, weekends and bank holidays.

You will also work closely with our patient flow and trauma coordinators and alongside the site matron to co-ordinate our patient flow throughout our service.

We will provide local training for the successful candidate.

The Jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care.

The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Leadership

Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality compassionate care.

Support staff to provide efficient, effective, safe and quality care to patients as an expert practitioner.
