As
Matron, you will lead a demanding and evolving service, with a focus on
increasing capacity and enhancing patient care across multiple specialties.
You will have overarching responsibility for:
Adult & Paediatric Cardiac
Surgery
Plastics and the Hand Unit
Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU)
Your
leadership will span both direct and indirect line management, ensuring
clinical excellence and consistency across diverse areas. A key part of your
role will be to uphold and advance standards of practice, while fostering a
culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job
The
role holder will be responsible for a broad portfolio, including budgetary
oversight, theatre productivity, line management, resource allocation, and
strategic development of the service.

Job responsibilities
The
jobholder will have overall responsibility for the management of
nursing/associated staff and the management of nursing resources/budgets
within the CSU or a part of it. The
jobholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical
care is provided within the wards and departments for which they are
responsible and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented
at a local level. The jobholder will
work in partnership with the facilities department in ensuring high standards
of hospital cleanliness is maintained, embracing the principles outlined in
the Matrons charter.
The
jobholder will be easily identifiable to patients, provide strong leadership
through a visible presence and provide support, advice and assistance
required by patients, their families and carers. The jobholder will also support the
implementation of the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), being a
focal point for advice to patients and carers and local resolution of
complaints.
Current
services comprise wards and departments across Theatres and and Anaesthetics
CSU. The jobholder has indirect management of approx. 300 whole time
equivalent nursing and support staff.
