As Matron, you will lead a demanding and evolving service, with a focus on increasing capacity and enhancing patient care across multiple specialties. You will have overarching responsibility for:

Adult & Paediatric Cardiac Surgery

Plastics and the Hand Unit

Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU)

Your leadership will span both direct and indirect line management, ensuring clinical excellence and consistency across diverse areas. A key part of your role will be to uphold and advance standards of practice, while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Strategic oversight of theatre utilisation and service delivery

Championing patient safety and quality of care

Supporting staff wellbeing and mental health

Driving staff engagement and professional development

Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient pathways

We are seeking a candidate with strong leadership skills, a proactive mindset, and a compassionate approach to staff wellbeing. Experience in managing complex clinical services and a commitment to innovation and excellence will be essential.

Main duties of the job

The role holder will be responsible for a broad portfolio, including budgetary oversight, theatre productivity, line management, resource allocation, and strategic development of the service.

The jobholder will have overall responsibility for the management of nursing/associated staff and the management of nursing resources/budgets within the CSU or a part of it. The jobholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the wards and departments for which they are responsible and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented at a local level. The jobholder will work in partnership with the facilities department in ensuring high standards of hospital cleanliness is maintained, embracing the principles outlined in the Matrons charter.
