Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6s role to join our nursing workforce on Ward J43 at Leeds Teaching Hospitals within the Speciality and Integrated Medicine CSU.

J43 is a 24 bedded General Internal Medicine caring for adults aged 17-75 with older adult care needs. Our patients have a wide variety of care needs therefore we are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to enable and empower a team whilst remaining patient centred. Our patients experience and patient safety underpinning all aspects of the role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated leader who has a passion for working with medical patients, who delivers high quality patient care, having excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our Senior nursing team. We need you to have an enthusiasm to learn and to be looking to take on new challenges.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the direct managerial responsibility for the ward in the absence/ or as delegated by the Senior Sister.

They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial and leadership/supervision for the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

Acts in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct. Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information. Maintain and deliver compassionate patient focused care in accordance with LTHT guidelines, policies, values and behaviours. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring documentation standards are upheld in accordance with NMC and LTHT guidelines, whether written or computerised. Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of patients. Promote evidence based practice. Participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice in the interests of promoting and improving quality care through action on findings. Undertake duties on other wards or departments as and when required by service demands or patient need. Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies. Contribute to the promotion of a positive clinical learning environment. Keep up to date with developments, advances and research in individualised patient care. Participate in research and or education programmes relating to professional nursing issues and practice. In the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse take charge of the ward or department and co-ordinate ward or department activities.
