Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 role to join our nursing workforce on Ward J43 at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, within the Speciality and Integrated Medicine CSU.

Ward J43 is a 24-bedded medical base ward, specialising in general medicine and elderly care. We care for adults aged 17 to 75, including some older adult patients. Due to the variety of complex care needs we support, we are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to empower and lead a team while maintaining a strong patient-centred approach. Patient experience and safety underpin all aspects of this role.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated leader with a passion for caring for medical patients, who consistently delivers high-quality care. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be an asset to our senior nursing team. You should be eager to learn and ready to take on new challenges.

The successful candidate will have direct managerial responsibility for the ward in the absence of, or as delegated by, the Senior Sister. You will also contribute to the delivery of professional, clinical, managerial, and supervisory leadership for the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will play an essential role assisting Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in teaching the nursing teams throughout the 24-hour period.

As an experienced nurse the jobholder will co-ordinate activities on the ward/dept ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.

The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

The jobholder will work within an environment caring for 24 mixed male & female with medical and elderly patients.

The jobholder will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the day-to-day management of approximately 45 whole time equivalent nurses and support staff.
