Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic nurse to join the Leeds Regional Adrenal Tumour Service. This is new post to co-ordinate the comprehensive care for patients with benign and malignant adrenal tumours.

Coordinate and optimise the pre-operative and post-operative care of patients undergoing adrenal surgery, including blood pressure optimisation, patient education, support and follow-up across adrenal outpatient clinics, the endocrinology day unit and the surgical ward.

Main duties of the job

Be an integral part of the adrenal multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, where you will present and discuss cases, contribute to decision making, communicate with patients and co-ordinate with other health professionals after the MDT.

Provide support and advice to patients with genetic adrenal syndromes and adrenal cancers, including arranging genetic testing, and facilitating access to clinical trials and novel therapies.

Assess and evaluate patients with adrenal hormone hypersecretion problems, such as Cushing's syndrome, phaeochromocytomas, and primary aldosteronism, and initiate appropriate investigations and medications with support from specialty consultants.

Provide advice and emotional support to patients and families/carers as appropriate, in both the out-patient and in-patient setting.

Help to develop and maintain clinical protocols, guidelines, and pathways for the adrenal tumour service, and participate in audit, research, and quality improvement activities.

Engage in continuous professional development and education, and act as a resource and mentor for other nurses and health professionals in the field of adrenal endocrinology.

The Leeds Regional Adrenal Tumour Service is a high volume, GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) approved tertiary service that provides care across a wide geographical population in Yorkshire. This post is designed to help deliver high-quality care for patients with complex and rare adrenal conditions. Many adrenal tumours, even if benign, produce excess hormone causing significant morbidities to patients.

The post holder is expected to work between the endocrinology and endocrine surgery teams, as well as in a multi-disciplinary team including radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, and geneticists.

As an adrenal tumour nurse specialist, you will:

Exercises a personal duty of care in relation to equipment, resource and stock control utilising equipment and supplies appropriately.
