Job summary

Are you looking for an exciting new managerial challenge in a highly supportive Clinical Service Unit (CSU) with fantastic learning opportunities? Do you have a passion for the safe and effective provision of care for the older adult population and have at least 18 months junior management experience? If so this Senior Sister/Charge Nurse post may be the role for you. The role is based on Ward J19, which is managed by the Specialty & Integrated Medicine CSU.

If your are interested in this role it is highly advisable to undertake a ward visit or to make contact with the named recruiting manager prior to interview.

Main duties of the job

It is essential that you are able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to support the development of the service. The successful applicant needs to have excellent organisational and time management skills with an aptitude for problem solving. You must have excellent clinical knowledge and skills. You will need to be a good communicator, be self-motivated, provide high standards of clinical skills and have the ability to influence and drive innovative practice within a fast growing and exciting specialty setting.

The Jobholder will carry continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the nursing workforce on Ward J19. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining the wards philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The jobholder will provide an overall responsibility for the provision of safe, effective and compassionate care, ensuring the high standards of the trust are upheld and will contribute to the development of the speciality service as well as contributing to the strategic direction of nursing within the Trust.

About us

Ward J19 is an Older Peoples Medicine unit at St Jamess University Hospital. It is a 29 bedded ward, accommodating a mixture of female and male patients ages 75 and over. Successful candidates will be responsible for management of staff and working in close collaboration with the MDT across Specialty Integrated Medicine.

The ward provides a high standard of quality care for all of our patients and we are looking for a highly skilled nurse to contribute to the fantastic work that is being carried out on J19. The patients on J19 have a wide variety of care needs. We are therefore looking for highly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to enable and empower a team and maintain high standards of patient care and clinical quality.

Clinical

- Work with Matron to lead the development of ward/department nursing practice, reflecting the CMT and Corporate Nursing business plans

- Provide a clinical lead and role model to the nursing team by delivering high quality care as an expert practitioner

- Set, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including those standards defined in the National Benchmarks for Essential Care
