next step for you. We are seeking a highly motivated & enthusiastic nurse
to join the Interventional Radiology team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS
Trust on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover training secondment. This role
offers a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills within a fast-paced,
highly technical clinical environment. This training post is suitable for
nurses with theatre experience or those keen to develop a career in
procedural or peri-operative care. You will be supported to build knowledge & competence in interventional radiology nursing, delivering
patient-centred, evidence-based care of the highest standard. The role
involves caring for conscious patients undergoing elective & emergency
diagnostic & interventional procedures, including but not limited to:Embolisation of tumours & haemorrhage
Angioplasty & stenting Nephrostomy insertion Acute urological & vascular procedures Stroke thrombectomy Due to the fixed-term nature of the
training contract, the successful candidate will be single-site focused, with
the aim of achieving on-call competency at one site during the contract
period. This post is advertised as B6 under AfC Annex 21 (75% top B6 pay scale) & is aimed (though not exclusively) at B5 nurses who are ready to
develop specialist intervention
Main duties of the job
This
training role offers an excellent opportunity to develop key skills,
especially in scrubbing to assist with theatre procedures. You'll be
involved in perioperative patient care, including administering IV medication
and post-operative care such as sheath removal. The role requires close
collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including consultants,
radiographers, and other healthcare professionals. A new radiology
development pathway is available to support your growth, helping you gain the
competencies needed for the Band 6 Specialist Peri-Operative Practitioner
role, with training lasting up to 12 months. As you progress, youll be able
to work on call on a single site. This role is ideal for those pursuing a
career in radiology theatres, offering the chance to gain essential
competencies under the guidance of experienced colleagues. You'll build
specialist knowledge, preparing you for a Senior Peri-Operative Practitioner
role. You'll deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring efficient use
of resources. You'll work with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient
care, theatre performance, and quality, while also contributing to the
evaluation of pre- and post-operative care. Regular updates with the senior
nursing team are also included in the role.

PURPOSE/SUMMARY As an experienced practitioner the jobholder will co-ordinate
activities within the peri-operative environment ensuring effective
communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and
unqualified staff within the department. He/she will play a key role in the

manipulate equipment eg preparation and administration of injections,
venepuncture, cannulation, application of dressings, insertion and removal of
catheters. Requirement to wear lead gowns when working within the
interventional radiology theatres. ii) MENTAL EFFORT: Frequent and prolonged
mental effort is required for example; to perform independent assessment and
diagnosis ensuring accuracy, making decisions regarding patients discharge
