This training role will suit you whether you have previous experience in theatre or just starting out in your career and interested in a fast-paced department. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. The team is looking for candidates who are committed to patient centred and evidence-based care of the highest standard, to work within the interventional radiology department here at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. You will rotate around 3 sites (LGI, SJUH and Bexley Wing) and enhance your knowledge of radiology-based procedures as an interventional radiology nurse. This involves the care of the conscious patients undergoing elective and acute, diagnostic and sometimes complex multi-organ vascular procedures such as embolisation of tumours/haemorrhage, angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, tumour ablations, and acute urological and vascular procedures and stroke thrombectomy. This post is being advertised as B6 annex 21. It is aimed but not exclusive to candidates currently working at Band 5 who are ready to develop specialist nursing skills associated with interventional radiology theatres and looking for a progressive role to a band 6 position. All candidates will be considered based on their experience, knowledge and skills.
Main duties of the job
This training role offers an excellent opportunity to develop key skills, especially in scrubbing to assist with theatre procedures. You'll be involved in perioperative patient care, including administering IV
medication and post-operative care such as sheath removal. The role requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including consultants, radiographers, and other healthcare professionals. A new radiology development pathway is available to support your growth, helping you gain the competencies needed for the Band 6 Specialist Peri-Operative Practitioner role, with training lasting up to 24 months. As you progress, youll be able to work on call across both sites. This role is ideal for those pursuing a career in radiology theatres, offering the chance to gain essential competencies under the guidance of experienced colleagues. You'll build specialist knowledge, preparing you for a Senior Peri-Operative Practitioner role. You'll deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring efficient use of resources. After completing the training, you will lead a sub-specialty within Interventional Radiology, such as neurology, tissue viability, or infection control. You'll work with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient care, theatre performance, and quality, while also contributing to the evaluation of pre- and post-operative care. Regular updates with the senior nursing team are also included in the role.
