Job summary
Leeds Wakefield Breast Screening Service has two mobile mammography units and four static sites at St.Jamess University Hospital - Leeds, Trinity shopping centre -Wakefield, Wharfedale General Hospital - Otley and at Junction 32 Retail Park - Glasshoughton to provide basic screening facilities for 165,000 women aged between 49-73 years of age in the Leeds, Wakefield and Pontefract districts. As the mobile screening units are sited in a variety of locations around Leeds, Wakefield and Pontefract, there is an expectation that applicants will be able drive to all the different sites.
Our purpose built Unit at Seacroft Hospital is used for assessment clinics where a variety of techniques and examinations are performed including vacuum assisted stereo biopsies.
This vacancy is for a trainee interventional Advanced Practitioner and also to work at a band 7 level of responsibility within the Service. Although post graduate or equivalent mammography qualifications are essential for this role further specialist training is available. We are a Service that is actively involved in research and clinical trials and would expect the successful candidate to be receptive and enthusiastic towards this type of work.

Main duties of the job
In conjunction with the departmental Team Leaders/ Principal Radiographer, the jobholder will be responsible for the efficient, effective delivery and co-ordination of the breast screening service. They should have a minimum of 2 years speciality experience. The jobholder will demonstrate unsupervised clinical expertise with knowledge and experience that contributes to the overall development and supervision of the breast screening team. They should be able to use their own initiative and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to advise and support clinicians/other staff both within and external to Radiology. The jobholder will work autonomously, take a lead role as part of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake specialised imaging procedures within their area of expertise, e.g. vacuum assisted biopsies. Involvement in development and implementation of department protocols and standards, and to have extended knowledge to trouble shoot when dealing with equipment/imaging problems and breakdowns. They should possess the skills to motivate others and have experience in supervising/training more junior members of staff. To act as Operator, Practitioner and, where necessary, Referrer under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations,(IR(ME)R)2000).To be a point of advice and guidance for clients/patients and being sensitive to their needs.
