Job summary

The opportunity has arisen for a 9-month secondment CT Team Manager position, covering St James. We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and highly motivated CT Radiographer to join the CT Team Manager team.

The successful candidate will have a main base site but also be expected to work across Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, supporting team management on both sites.

The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in staff engagement/ team collaboration, technical skill, and strong leadership qualities. They should enjoy working as part of a team, be able to work autonomously with good time management skills and be interested in person-management and innovation, with the ability to lead change.

Main duties of the job

The CT service is delivered across 3 sites; Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), St James and Seacroft Hospital (SCH). The CT fleet consists of both Siemens and GE scanners, boasting a top of the range, Siemens Force. We are a busy unit undertaking over 75,000 examinations per year. The successful applicant/s will be expected to assess, authorise, and undertake a wide range of CT examinations; working closely with multi-disciplinary teams and service users to acquire diagnostic images with the lowest radiation dose practicable to promote treatment and guide ongoing care.

As a Band 7 Team Manager, you will be required to work autonomously and to provide specialist advice/ training to the Radiology workforce, students, and apprentices in relation to clinical practice and governance. The post holder should have strong leadership and communication skills, working collaboratively with CT colleagues & management to improve access for service users and support workforce retention/resilience innovations.

The post holder will be expected to take an active role in the health & wellbeing and safety of the department and workforce, collaborate on service/workforce initiatives and lead change. Team Manager responsibilities will involve the support of HR policies, management of incidents, PALS/patient complaints, engagement in CT management meetings, health & safety, radiation protection responsibilities as an authorised RPS and intermediate life support (ILS) to support the CDC and workforce

Principle Duties & Areas of Responsibility

o Manage the designated department on a day-to-day basis in conjunction with appropriate radiologists and support staff.

o To liaise with all disciplines of staff, other departments/wards within the hospital and external bodies to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians. To monitor the quality-of-service provision through audit.

o Ensure that mechanisms for effective communication with all staff are in place.

o Ensure appropriate documentation of operational procedures & maintenance of other departmental records.

o Respond to complaints, investigate circumstances, and implement changes as necessary in consultation with the Principal Superintendent.

o To report incidents in line with Trust risk management policy, including investigation and remedial action.

o To act as operator and (if necessary) as referrer under IR(ME)R assessing requests and deciding on appropriate imaging techniques.

o To offer specialist advice to users of the designated department.

o To collaborate with the Principal Superintendent and appropriate Radiologists in the planning & evaluation of imaging protocols for patient examinations.

o To collaborate with radiologists in clinical decisions relating to the choice, execution and reporting of examinations.

o To supervise safe work practices of NHS staff and students.

o To facilitate undergraduate and postgraduate training and education in the department.

o To participate in the delivery of education programmes for staff delivering lectures, tutorials and workshops and facilitate the development of radiographer extended role initiatives.

o To actively undertake and maintain personal CPD, professional training, education and contribute to departmental appraisal programme.

o To demonstrate active commitment to the development of staff, assist with their practical training and education and support their development needs.

o To facilitate pastoral support for new staff.

o To participate in the planning and implementation of clinical research projects involving radiology.

o To actively participate in the technical and patient focused aspects of the departments Audit programme.

o Through appraisal and KSF monitoring identify & address staff training needs making sure that they are relevant to personal & departmental/service needs.

o Deploy resources effectively and efficiently to provide a high-quality service to the patient through consultation with the Principal Superintendent.

o Monitors or contributes to the drawing up of department/service budgets or financial initiatives

o Authorised signatory for cash/financial payments.

o Maximise efficient and effective use of resources using agreed measures and appropriate tools and techniques e.g. capacity & demand analysis.

o Participate in equipment procurement as necessary within identified constraints.

o To ensure compliance with the Trusts standing financial instructions.

o Ensure the accuracy and integrity of operational data entered onto information systems

o Ensure that the dept meets the required standards for confidentiality & data protection policies.

o Participate in the continuing development of information systems within Radiology.

o Implement & monitor a QA programme for equipment and techniques.
