Job summary

The Dental Radiology Department at Leeds Dental Institute (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer with experience and interest in Dental Radiology to join our efficient and busy department.

The Leeds Dental Institute is joined with the University of Leeds Dental School and provides an 08:30am - 5:00 pm service with some Saturday working.

Our state of the art modern facilities offer an excellent working environment and a fantastic opportunity to learn new clinical skills and broaden your current skill base within an expert and supportive professional team. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise, have excellent communication skills, initiative and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Candidates will be required to coordinate the department, manage the departments workload and make informative departmental decisions.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the role include delivering high quality radiographic service, ensure documentation of operational procedures within the department and linked clinics and take part in the QA programme. The Candidate will be expected to implement arrangements for monitoring the quality of service to patients and to develop and implement proposals for improving services. There will be the expectation to collaborate with the radiologists and other clinical staff in clinical decisions. The department provides the training for Undergraduate Dentistry students, Dental Nurses, Hygiene and therapy trainees, and undergraduate radiographers. It is expected that the candidate will be involved with the teaching and facilitation of the students. The candidate will be expected to undertake and maintain personal CPD and professional training and encourage the highest professional and technical standards in dental radiography.

Required: BSc(Diagnostic Radiography) & HCPC Registered.

About us

The department performs 20,000 x-ray examinations per year. We currently have 7 Imaging Rooms consisting of 5 Intra-Oral Units, 3 OPG Units (2 with Ceph) and 2 Cone Beam CT units. A range of Maxillo Facial Cone Beam CT examinations are undertaken in the department for inpatients & outpatients of LTHT and also for other NHS trusts within Yorkshire. Experience in Dental Radiology is essential. All training will be provided if necessary.

The department is keen to facilitate further education opportunities, both formal and informal, and individuals are actively supported in this area. Involvement in departmental audits and research is expected and all staff are encouraged to attend regional and national conferences related to the department. There will also be the expectation to support the Dental Radiography Department at Chapel Allerton Hospital when required.

Undertake all the professional and technical requirements of the post as a state-registered radiographer with the Health Professions Council (HPC), while working as an autonomous practitioner within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

To support efficient and effective delivery and co-ordination of the dental and maxillofacial radiography service which includes intraorals, panoramics, cephs and cone beam CT. Training will be provided in all imaging modalities if required.

To deliver the education, training and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, qualified and student radiographers, hygiene and therapy students and radiography assistants.

To act as a source of expertise to clinicians/other hospital staff within and outside the Radiology Department.

To identify technical and service quality issues in line with Institute and Trust initiatives.

To act as a Practitioner under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) 2018.
