Service Manager - Workflow, Automation & Integration

The closing date is 20 March 2026

Job summary

Expected Shortlisting Date

Planned Interview Date

02/04/2026

We are looking for an improvement-focused individual to help realise the significant workflow benefits offered by the new CfLM facility. The CfLM provides the potential for much greater integration of services, including pre-analytical routines, with scope for increased automation. This should support improved Turnaround Times (TATs), workforce deployment and communication between teams.

Workflows are not currently fully integrated or optimised, with siloed working because there has not been the leadership capacity to manage full service integration at the same time as relocating services, implementing the new LIMS and introducing new managed service equipment.

There is now a need for additional leadership capacity to drive and deliver the workflow optimisation needed to ensure that CFLM-based laboratory services are fully responsive to all user requirements

This is a Service Manager post with oversight of Central Specimen Reception and automated track roles. In addition to creating optimised workflows, the post-holder would take a lead on engagement work with other clinical CSUs to ensure that result turnaround time requirements are consistently achieved.

Main duties of the job

Objectives include:

To integrate speciality work processes within optimised automation workflows

To develop & implement the non-registered workforce model for delivering optimal automated sample flow, from sample receipt through to result generation.

To establish standard work for key roles across the workflow for the non-registered workforce

To undertake full capacity vs demand modelling for CSR in line with a global, systems-based perspective, and develop a workforce model (including proposed roster template) to deliver necessary flow

To lead on the implementation of auto-accessioning, with full integration into laboratory and clinical workflows, and appropriate user engagement.

To establish and embed the utility of daily workload management tools that support visibility and control of workflow across all automated specialties, from sample receipt to result production
