Job summary
The Transplant and Cellular Immunology Laboratory, situated at St Jamess University Hospital in Leeds, is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Clinical Scientist to join their friendly and hard-working team. The laboratory supports renal, liver, CTA and HSCT transplantation across the West Yorkshire region and employs the latest technology including PCR based methods, Next Generation Sequencing and flow cytometry. Recipient and donor matching and compatibility investigations, in support of regional renal transplant and haematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation programmes are performed, as well as Immunogenetics testing for disease associations and adverse drug reactions.
This is a forward thinking and competitive laboratory with a strong focus on, and involvement with, patient management.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills in a specialised range of techniques, and further training will be encouraged. The Laboratory is accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) and UKAS.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for the workstream management of a defined area of laboratory operations and will be expected to be competent across the breadth of assays deployed by the laboratory. The applicant will be expected to be involved in validation, verification, quality and development for a laboratory section and will regularly participate in clinical MDT meetings.
The Transplant Immunology service operates a 24/7 on-call service to support the deceased donor renal transplant programme, and, following the appropriate training, the post holder would be expected to participate in this rota.
Applications are welcome from experienced Clinical Scientists who are already registered with the HCPC, or from pre-registrant trainees who have completed or are about to complete their training. The successful candidate will be someone who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and a good team worker. Previous NHS laboratory experience in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics is essential. Managerial or supervisory experience is desirable.
