We currently have a vacancy for a Biomedical Scientist, Band 5, in the Clinical Immunology laboratory at Leeds General Infirmary. The post is full time, working from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, although some flexibility may be possible within the needs of the service. We invite applications from enthusiastic and committed individuals with proven experience working within a busy Immunology laboratory environment. The successful applicant will be an excellent team player and will be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic.

The Clinical Immunology department provides laboratory support to the wider Yorkshire region and processed over 530,000 requests last year. Tests performed include both automated and more specialised assays. As a department we aim to provide a consistently high quality and professional service to all our users. The successful candidate will join our team in the delivery of this service and be involved in the managerial and quality aspects of the day to day running of the lab.

Candidates will be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with demonstrable post registration experience in a specialist diagnostic immunology laboratory; hands-on experience in capillary zone

We would also consider applications from individuals with similar clinical immunology experience who are working towards HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

As a biomedical scientist in Clinical Immunology you will be a fully competent member of the department. Normally working as part of a team, you will be expected to perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations, including the technical interpretation of specialist immunology tests, and managing automated high-throughput analysis. Working in different sections of the department you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients. You will be expected to apply professional judgements and specialist skills to technically complex and sometimes difficult situations with the support of specialist and advanced biomedical scientists. Within the team you may be required to organize the tasks of support workers and provide training and support to unregistered staff and colleagues. You will be required to communicate highly complex information, often related to patient management and care, to colleagues, healthcare staff and other organizations
