Job summary
Transplant and Cellular Immunology Biomedical Scientist (Band 5)
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to further develop their skills as a Biomedical Scientist within the Transplant and Cellular Immunology Laboratory at Leeds St James Hospital. Working as part of a team, you will be expected to perform a wide range of specialist technical investigations. At other times, you may be expected to work alone and independently, for example, when working on-call or participating in particular laboratory tasks.
Working in different sections of the department, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients. The Transplant Immunology Department carries out HLA typing, crossmatching and antibody screening in support of solid organ and haemopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), immunogenetic and disease association testing. The Cellular Immunology section performs immunophenotyping and functional assays to support the diagnosis and treatment of a range of clinical conditions. We have direct involvement with clinicians, for example, in transplantation, we use our test results to provide advice on the compatibility of a potential organ or stem cell donor and the recipient and in Cellular Immunology we work closely with Immunologists to arrange investigations for immunodeficiency.
