Job summary
  An
exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and experienced phlebotomists to
join the Phlebotomy Service at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as band 4
Team Leaders.
The
successful applicants will be one of 3 responsible team leaders for the
delivery of outpatient, inpatient and community-based phlebotomy services and
will be key to ensuring the phlebotomy service runs smoothly and efficiently to
deliver the highest standards of patient centred, safe care.
We
are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals who are competent in venepuncture
and have experience of managing a team.
The
successful applicants will demonstrate strong communication and effective
organisational skills with a commitment to continued professional development

  Main duties of the job
  
 
 
  Leading, supporting and motivating
 a team of phlebotomists in the delivery of high-quality, safe and
 patient-centred care.
  Ensuring safe and effective blood
 collection services across wards, clinics and community services to ensure
 they consistently meet Trust standards.

 To
 provide cover across all areas of the Phlebotomy Service in support of the
 Matron for phlebotomy.
 To
 co-ordinate and validate the activities of routine blood collection services
 across outpatient, inpatient and community areas of the Trust.
 Set
 and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection.
 To
 extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the blood sample
 suitable for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose.
 To
 effectively manage issues and situations that may arise during the day to day
 running of phlebotomy services.
 To
 work with other experts to design and deliver the phlebotomy training and
 induction programme.
 To
 co-ordinate and participate in the training of phlebotomists.
 To
 participate in people governance procedures such as staff recruitment and
 appraisal and attendance management. 
 To
 prepare and check staff rotas, attendance, staff wages, overtime claims and
 travel expenses.
 To
 Co-ordinate the stock and non-stock ordering for phlebotomy.
 To
 represent the department at meetings, to promote good working relationships
 across internal and external boundaries, being the first point of contact for
 phlebotomy for any day-to-day problems that arise.

  There is a requirement to work
 weekends, bank holidays and cover service delivery times between 08:00 and

 effective coordination of the service.

 will be a fully competent phlebotomist and will be expected to set and
 maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection.
 You
 will be working unsupervised, seeking support from line-managers as
 appropriate.

 will work in various locations across the Trust and in the community
 supervising the work of phlebotomy staff.

 will have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the
 provision of an accurate and timely service for patients.

 will be expected to apply professional judgements and specialist skills to
 technical and sometimes difficult situations. 
 You
 will be required to communicate effectively with patients and to colleagues,
