Job summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for the right candidates to join our Surgical Oncology administrative team as a medical secretary. You will work closely with the Endocrine surgeons, providing comprehensive secretarial support and ensuring all our typing targets are met, supporting the various referral to treatment targets, whilst also being responsible for patient admissions and other wider admin duties. Your role will include taking telephone calls from various departments in the Trust, our patients and other clinical units. Candidates will need excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, to work under minimal supervision and the ability to meet deadlines. Main duties of the job
There is 1 post available:
1 x Band 3 at 22.5 hours per week
Typing of medical reports/patient details onto a computerised system.
Dealing with correspondence, incoming and outgoing, that any senior member of the department may require.
Dealing with telephone enquiries from hospital staff, outside agencies and patients.
Typing of medical letters onto the system.
General clerical duties which include filing, photocopying and faxing.
Provide cover in reception eg act as reception clerk, dealing with queries from patients, medical staff and outside agencies, including telephone enquiries

The Surgical Oncology team consists of: Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Gynaecology Oncology and Thoracic Surgery working with other colleagues in the Oncology CSU. All teams work collaboratively to produce effective support for our patients and clinical colleagues. Our work is very busy, and at times can be challenging, but with support from line managers and colleagues, we work to produce the optimum service for our patients whilst supporting each other. We provide a comprehensive training package and offer a wide range of training opportunities to help you develop your skills and to support career ambitions.
