We are pleased to announce a rare opportunity for a 12-month fixed term contract for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Lung Specialist Service within the Leeds Cancer Centre, Oncology Clinical Service Unit at St Jamess University Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside the existing Thoracic Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide support to patients and their families who have been referred for curative surgery for diagnosed or suspected primary lung cancer. This will involve supporting patients in clinic, the ward and via the telephone follow up service, attending scheduling meetings, co-ordinating the Patient Education Sessions, attending the Thoracic Surgical High-Risk MDT and keeping the patients up to date with outcomes.

The role requires maintaining close working relationships and robust communication channels with all members of the clinical teams to ensure the patient pathway is seamless and ensure equitable care for all 6 MDT's with the Alliance. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to research projects, participate and lead audit programmes for service and pathway developments to improve the patient experience and outcomes

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering specialist support to patients and their families across the region.

You will work alongside the Thoracic Surgical Services and a dedicated Thoracic Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist.

You will support patients who are referred in from regional centres with primary lung cancer throughout their surgical pathway.

You will provide specialist education and support through patient education programmes.
