Job summary
We are looking for a skilled and experienced nurse to join our clinical nurse (CNS) team caring for adult patients with a who have been referred to LTHT to receive Car-T therapy.
As part of this team, you would play a significant role in the patients care pathway, supporting patients through their treatment journey and wherever possible responding to patient holistic needs, this will include providing support for patients and families who are making decisions from diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway. We provide clinical support for this highly specialised, unique treatment and play a key role in the coordination of complex patient care. It is crucial for the safe delivery of treatment and complication management both directly and via a programme of CPD and competency assessment for clinical staff. The service supports on-boarding of new products, maintenance of cellular therapies, accreditations and compliance with key regulatory requirements. CAR-T therapy is a cancer treatment using the immune system to kill cancer cells, with potential to cure some forms of bone marrow cancers when other treatments have failed. It works by collecting T cells from a patients blood, genetically modifying them in a lab, reprogramming them into cancer targeting cells and reinfusing them.

Main duties of the job
Summary of roles associated with this post:
- Administration of CAR-T therapy
- Coordination of specialist bloods
- Coordination of patient pathway from referral to discharge
- Daily ward round for inpatients and support for unwell patients
- Clinics twice a week for follow up / new patients
- Supporting patients and relatives in clinic and through the pathway
- Provide clinical and psycho-social support
- Referrals to other health professionals
Attending weekly MDTs and team meetings
- Rolling programme of training and education of the ward staff and Haematology CNS teams
- Planning admissions and booking chemotherapy appointments
- Meetings with drug company and NHS BT to confirm patient collections and delivery of cells
- Assist / lead on Audits with Pharmaceutical companies
