Job summary

We are excited to be able to offer a great opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to develop in a leadership role and to join our friendly team caring for adult patients with haematological disorders.

J88 is a 20 bedded haematology ward that offers high standards of care for patients with both malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders. The ward is responsible for administering complex treatments for patients with haematology disorders.

Patients and their families are dealing with challenging and difficult treatments which require the team to be highly sensitive, adaptable and expert. Working alongside the Senior Sister the successful candidate will show an ability to support patients, families, team members and the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will share our passion for delivering a personalised patient experience and will understand the needs of the team required to deliver this.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate good leadership qualities, with an ability to motivate team members. The role of the band 6 in co-ordinating and supervising staff is essential to ensuring high standards of patient care, patient safety and outcomes and promoting staff wellbeing. You will show evidence of supporting change management as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister with the 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. By assisting with managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the cost-effective use of resources.

As an experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating activities on the ward ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward. The post holder will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate good leadership qualities, have an ability to motivate team members, have evidence of supporting change management, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The jobholder will play an essential role assisting Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in teaching the nursing teams throughout the 24 hour period.

As an experienced nurse the jobholder will co-ordinate activities on the ward/dept ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring written records are kept

Acts in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery code of conduct

Education and Training

Contribute to the promotion of a positive learning environment within the clinical area

In conjunction with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse ensure all staff have an individual performance development plan

Ensure both self and team members achieve annual mandatory training requirements

Participate in preceptorship and mentorship programmes

Undertake continuous professional and clinical development, seeking opportunities to enhance skills

Working with Senior Sister/Charge Nurse provide leadership to the clinical team, developing new rotas/ways of working
