Job summary
Are you an experienced registered nurse looking for a new challenge? Do you enjoy working in fast paced, acute environments caring for acutely unwell patients? If the answer is yes then we want to hear from you as we are looking to recruit registered nurses to join our Nurse Practitioner team on Ward J95 - the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit in Bexley Wing, St Jamess Hospital. The unit consists of 10 trolley spaces and a waiting area for ambulatory patients, caring for Oncology and Haematology patients who are acutely unwell and need urgent assessment. It is a fast paced environment where you will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to help support clinical assessments, investigations/ treatment and either discharge home or admission to hospital. The assessment unit is open 7 days a week with a working pattern of long days, nights and twilights.
Main duties of the job
You will be working as part of a team of highly skilled oncology nurse practitioners and the wider multi-disciplinary team members to deliver emergency care to our patients. You will support the timely assessments of patients, gaining experience in triaging, bed managing as well as carrying out interventions such as venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation and ECGs. You will help deliver care as directed by the medical/ ACP teams and monitor its effectiveness. You will help oversee the patients stay on the assessment unit, ensuring timely discharge where appropriate or transfer to an inpatient area. Effective communication will be demonstrated at all times, liaising closely with other health professionals and departments and ensuring patients and their relatives are kept informed.

Ward J95 Acute Oncology Assessment Unit is part of the Oncology CSU that also cares for oncology and surgical oncology patients. We are a very close mutli-disciplinary team and strive to deliver a high standard of care to our patients. We are based in the Bexley Wing at St Jamess Hospital, which is a purpose built cancer facility opened in 2008.
