Senior Clinical Support Worker

Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Children's Haematology and Oncology team on ward L31 as a band 3 clinical support worker. The highly specialised multi-disciplinary team provide holistic and expert care to children and young people undertaking stem cell transplants, cancer care and care for patients with non-malignant haematology conditions. This position is ideal for a motivated individual who is looking for a new challenge and to progress in their career. The successful candidate will join an experienced and dynamic team who are committed to improving the experience and treatment of young people. You will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work well within a team. This job advertisement is for full time positions although part time applications will be considered. Specific unit training is not essential as this will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirect compassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team. The jobholder will undertake a range of delegated clinical patient care duties under the support and supervision of a registered practitioner.

The jobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as part of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan, implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholder will be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) and acting on own initiative to achieve the planned outcome.

The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

The jobholder will be expected to lead a team of clinical support workers and apprentice clinical support workers.

The jobholder will be expected to practice in accordance within Trust policies, guidelines, standards and statutory requirements and operate within defined competency boundaries.

The jobholder will work within a ward, clinical department or community setting as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The jobholder must comply with the wearing of PPE as appropriate to the clinical situation - this may involve wearing face masks for a considerable length of time.

We care for children and young people with a range of non-malignant haematological disorders; Leeds is a Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia and a Specialist Centre for Haemoglobinopathy.
