Job summary
OOPD at St James is open 07:30 - 20:00 and
Seacroft 08:00-17:30 Monday to Friday. There is a requirement to work on a rota
basis at the weekend to provide support to acute patients who are seen in the
outpatients department. This is between the hours of 08:00-18:00. There is
also an expectation for you to work on rotation in our peripheral site at
Seacroft Hospital.As a Staff Nurse, you will take the lead to ensure that
patients receive high standard of care provide and undertakes appropriate tests
and supporting them through their journey in the clinic. You will be required
to support patients during investigations and procedures such as injections to
the eye, various types of surgery, post operative treatment and laser
treatment.There will be opportunities for you to work in Ophthalmology
subspecialties to further enhance your skills. Training will be provided. We

Main duties of the job
To
provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and
evaluation of individualised programmes of care.
To
deliver care without supervision
To
take charge of the department as necessary in the absence of the sister or
Charge Nurse.
To
participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior
staff, post basic learners and students.
To
take responsibility as the prime care provider and coordinating the delivery of
patient care for patients attending clinic.
To
promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient
care.
As
a band 5 nurse you will undertake and be responsible for the clinical
management and co-ordination of high quality , safe care on the unit on a daily
basis. You will be an approachable, pro-active individual with sound clinical skills and knowledge .
You will work closely with the wider
multi-disciplinary team.
You
will be required to demonstrate that you possess and embrace the values that

Eye Department is the largest provider of specialist Ophthalmology services in
the Yorkshire region and provides a specialist ophthalmology service for
patients in Leeds, Yorkshire and from across the north of England.We strive to

working in the Ophthalmology OPD provide a range of services including but not
limited to, assessment of patients, measuring visual acuity and intraocular
pressure, instilling eye drops, measuring visual fields and supporting patients
care.
The
role of the ophthalmic nurse within the Ophthalmology OPD at St James Hospital
is assessing and treating patients with various eye conditions. The high number
of patients attending the outpatient department poses particular problems for
the nurse, as she will be unable to learn about each patient's individual needs
in detail and will need to action in a timely manner in order to maintain the
patient flow in clinic and avoid delays. She must be aware of those patients
who require particular attention in respect of their communication and mobility
difficulties, which may result from visual impairment or from other physical
impairments or both. These patients will usually be elderly although not
always. The nurse needs to be aware of any special needs or circumstances and
action accordingly and without delay.
At
Seacroft Hospital the registered nurse is required to assist with intravitreal
injections (approximately 50 patients a day) or look after glaucoma patients
(up to 50 patients a day) and the expectations of the role are the same as at
St James's Hospital.
