An
exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in ophthalmology.J25 is the
ophthalmology day case unit based at St Jamess Hospital.
The
unit provides ophthalmic surgery to a large number of patients on a daily basis
ranging from cataract to more complex corneal, glaucoma, oculoplastic and
retinal surgery.Attached to J25 is ophthalmic pre-assessment where patients are
assessed for their suitability for surgery under local or general anaesthetic
and relevant tests and investigations relating to their specific surgery are
carried out.

Rotation between the day unit and pre-assessment will be required to enable the
successful candidate to achieve competency in both areas.Our day-case unit is
open 07:30 - 20:00 Monday to Friday. There is a requirement to work on a rota
basis at the weekend to provide support to acute patients who are seen in the
outpatients department. This is between the hours of 09:30 -12:30.It is a busy,
fast paced environment that requires a motivated and dynamic individual who is
patient-centred,
Main duties of the job
As
a staff nurse in ophthalmology, you will work closely with the medical team,
admin staff and other nursing colleagues to provide a smooth, caring and
efficient service for patients. Your main responsibilities will include
providing excellent care for patients whilst supporting them through their
journey on the day unit from admission to discharge or in pre-assessment.
The
role will involve taking charge of the ward or department as necessary in the
absence of the sister or charge nurse and you will supervise and mentor junior
staff and students on placement. The aim is to rotate when required to between
both the ophthalmology day unit and pre-assessment, full training will be
provided to the successful candidates.
You

Leeds teaching Hospital Trust. It is the largest provider of specialist
Ophthalmology services in the Yorkshire region and provides a specialist
ophthalmology service for patients in Leeds, Yorkshire and from across the
