Job summary
We
are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to
join the Discharge Lounge team at St. Jamess University Hospital. Open
year-round, Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, the Discharge Lounge plays a key
role in supporting the safe and efficient transition of patients who are ready
to leave the hospital.
This role, part of the Corporate Operations CSU, is
central to improving patient flow by facilitating timely discharges and freeing
up inpatient bed capacity. Working in collaboration with wards and emergency
departments, you will identify and support patients suitable for transfer to
the Discharge Lounge.
Main duties of the job
As
a Discharge Lounge Nurse, you will play a central role in ensuring patients are
supported, comfortable, and fully prepared for their next steps. The
environment is dynamicwhile some days are calm, others may involve unexpected
challenges such as medication delays, transport issues, or time-sensitive
discharges. Flexibility, sound clinical judgment, and adaptability are
essential for ensuring safe and efficient patient transitions.
In
this role, you will provide high-quality nursing care and support the smooth
operation of the discharge process. Working closely with wards and emergency
departments, you will help identify patients suitable for transfer to the
Discharge Lounge and coordinate their ongoing care. You will also monitor
patients for any changes in condition and escalate concerns promptly.
Strong
interpersonal and communication skills are vital, as you will interact
regularly with patients, families, ward staff, and external partners to ensure
coordinated care. You will also act as an advocate for the Discharge Lounge,
helping to promote its value in maintaining hospital flow and bed capacity.
We
are seeking compassionate, professional nurses who consistently uphold the
Trusts values, demonstrate a commitment to excellence in patient care, and
bring a positive, team-focused approach to service improvement.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a
supportive team and contribute to the ongoing development and success of the
Discharge Lounge at St. Jamess.
