Leeds Teaching Hospitals

Staff Nurse (XR05)

The closing date is 30 September 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Staff Nurse to join our multidisciplinary Cardiac Ultrasound team to help in the delivery of high quality Diagnostic Ultrasound imaging services for patients who require Stress Echocardiography and Transoesophageal Echocardiography at the Leeds General Infirmary. This is a rare opportunity for career development within a niche department where you can develop new skills, working with state-of-the-art technology within a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be required to work 8:30 - 16:30pm shift pattern, Monday - Friday.

You will need to possess excellent interpersonal skills and be an enthusiastic, dedicated, and flexible team member in order to support the rapidly developing services. Cardiology experience would be preferable; performing and interpreting ECG and cannulation skills are highly desirable, however a full training package will be provided to the successful candidate.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest acute health providers in the UK and based in one of the fastest growing and vibrant cities in the north.

For all new starters to the Trust we have a structured Introduction to Professional Practice (IPP) Induction programme to prepare you for working at LTHT. We also have a 6 month preceptorship framework to support you in your new role, which incorporates further education sessions and support forums.

This is a part time role 30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual with a genuine interest in Cardiology, who is hardworking and passionate about delivering high standards of cardiac care, shows commitment towards service improvement and who is motivated towards maintaining and improving their own skills. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a good level of technical expertise with haemodynamic and respiratory monitoring equipment, and diagnostic ECG acquisition and interpretation. During the investigations they will operate stress exercise equipment and will be required to distinguish the ECG rate and rhythm and identify ST segment elevation or depression and communicate any significant changes to the other members of the team. They will be required to use capnography and monitor blood pressure and blood oxygen saturations during and after procedures which require sedation.

They should be familiar with preparing and administering I.V medicine and imaging contrast solutions. Cannulation and venepuncture are highly desirable skills. In emergency situations you will work as part of a team providing CPR support to the patient. The post includes delivering training to different members of the department to ensure up to date and adequate skills are maintained. Cardiology experience is preferred; however we are aware that this is specialist work so further training will be provided, if required. Excellent communication skills are paramount.
