Job summary
An
exciting fixed term maternity leave opportunity has become available for an
experienced, enthusiastic and proactive Children's Nurse to support the
development of the Childrens Allergy Service at the Leeds Childrens Hospital.
Childrens
Allergy is a busy specialist service and offers multiple consultant led and
nurse led clinics per week. The post holder will be an integral member of the
multidisciplinary team providing care to children with allergic diseases (i.e.
food allergy, allergic rhinitis, eczema, asthma, medication/latex allergy etc..)
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a team of very friendly and knowledgeable Paediatric Allergy Nurses and will be providing a hands-on clinical role supporting the consultant-led Paediatric Allergy Clinics with diagnostic testing (skin prick testing) and providing health education and self-management advice to Children, Young People and their families in a busy and fast-paced environment. The Allergy Staff Nurses also provide independent nurse-led skin prick testing clinics, and support the nurse-led penicillin allergy de-labelling clinic.
In addition to the supporting the allergy clinics, the post holder will assist in the coordination and delivery of food/medication challenges and subcutaneous and sublingual immunotherapy treatment in the dedicated nurse-led Children's Allergy Day Unit (CADU).
The Allergy Nurses also play a pivotal role in supporting Children/Young People and their families at home and are often the first point of contact for emails and phone calls for families, nurseries/schools or colleagues in primary care requiring support or advice.
We care for children with severe allergies, which can be multi-systemic (food allergy/asthma/eczema) and often this can have a significant impact on Children/Young People's psychological well-being. Therefore, an integral part of the Allergy Nurse role is developing relationships with Children/Young People and their families & providing ongoing support, reassurance and signposting to other resources as needed.
