Exciting opportunities have arisen for a Band 6 Nurse Stroke Services in Leeds.

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about delivering specialist care to stroke patients within both Acute and Hyper Acute settings. The Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse role is pivotal to the success of the team. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership qualities, the ability to motivate and support team members, and evidence of contributing to and supporting change management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, alongside a clear commitment to personal and team development.
The role will also include undertaking non-clinical responsibilities and sharing leadership and management duties with the Senior Sisters, including activities such as investigation reporting and presenting at panels.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the Band 7, sharing responsibility for the 24-hour operational management of the ward/department to ensure safe, effective and efficient service delivery. The post holder will contribute to providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership, offering guidance, supervision and support to the nursing team.
They will help to develop and sustain a ward or departmental culture that places the patient at the centre of compassionate, safe and high-quality care. By supporting the management of administrative and financial processes, the post holder will promote the effective and cost-efficient use of resources.
The post holder will act as a positive role model, promoting high standards of evidence-based practice, supporting the development of the nursing team and ensuring the effective running of the ward/department in the absence of the Band 7. The role also includes managing a large workforce, contributing to specialty governance, and working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team.
About us
The Stroke Unit are part of the Centre for Neurosciences. The ward consists of a 23-bedded, mixed-sex adult stroke unit that provides expert care, assessment and treatment for patients with acute stroke. The 10-bedded Level 2 Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) admits patients directly from the Emergency Department and functions as a Regional Thrombectomy Centre, also receiving patients from Harrogate.
