An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Epilepsy Specialist Nurse to
join an established service providing epilepsy care to adults across the
region.
The
service provides expert assessment, advice, training and intervention,
supporting the medical and surgical management of patients with
epilepsy. This will be carried out via
nurse led clinics, consultant led clinics, and telephone support.
The
jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The
jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs,
the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care and the
setting of standards of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing
care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the
development of the specialty service. The jobholder will ensure cost
effective use of resources.
The
jobholder will work alongside the current Band 7 and 6 nurses within the
team. We provide information, education, advice and support for those
patients with a new diagnosis throughout their disease trajectory. This can
be undertaken via the telephone, within patient groups, inpatient contact or
outpatient clinic settings. The role requires good communication /
organizational skills and close liaison with all members of the Clinical/MDT
Team.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will also work closely with Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Primary
care, the voluntary sector and multi-disciplinary team to provide responsive
and supportive service to those with a diagnosis of epilepsy. The successful
candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work
collaboratively with all members of the team and Primary care. You will be
involved in the development of person-centred care plans and training in
order to optimize health outcomes, reduce hospital admissions and improve
quality of life of the individuals you support. You will be expected to work
autonomously in the role with the support of the other members of the
epilepsy nurse team and contribute to research.
The
successful applicant should be a Registered Nurse with experience of working
with people with epilepsy. The Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or the
desire to undertake this course would be advantageous. The successful
applicant will be supported through clinical supervision and training to
develop further knowledge and skills to support people who have epilepsy. A
full driving licence would be beneficial.

We
are a team of three specialist nurses based at LGI and working within the
whole of LTHT. We assess patients in outpatients clinics within the Trust,
in-patient ward reviews, and provide a telephone single point of contact for
people with epilepsy. We are a tertiary centre for epilepsy and epilepsy
surgery so have referrals from all over the region.
