Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position within the Neurosciences CSU team of Neurology. Hours are full time, 37.5 per week. This would be an ideal opportunity for someone looking to expand their experience and knowledge in the Trust. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive admin support for the Neurology team, based at the LGI.

General duties will include making patient appointments, answering telephone and email enquiries from patients, GPs and other hospital departments, dealing with consultant and nurse emails and requests and supporting the various referral to treatment targets. We are looking for a self-motivated, organized, flexible and hard working person.

Candidates will need excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, to work under minimal supervision and the ability to meet deadlines. Previous experience of working in an office environment is desirable.

Microsoft office or equivalent is an essential requirement to undertake this varied and interesting role, along with a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.

Main duties of the job

Main duties are:

To provide a full clerical support service to the Department including organising, sorting and filing documents and papers; dealing with incoming and outgoing paper and electronic post as required; photocopying and distributing information by post or email.

To plan and book appointments in priority order in accordance with departmental policy in a timely and efficient manner and arrange transport/interpreting services where appropriate.

Check/enter patient and /or other details on the Patient Administration and other Systems.

To request and retrieve relevant information from the appropriate administration system (electronic or paper systems) as necessary including patient case notes.

Prepare documentation for processing, including inputting, photocopying or scanning.

To deal with telephone and in-person queries from patients and relatives, Trust staff and external agencies in a polite and helpful manner, observing the need for discretion and courtesy. Taking responsibility for returning any follow up calls as necessary

About us

The Centre for Neurosciences CSU provides the clinical management support for the departments of neurology, neurosurgery, spinal surgery, pain, stroke and neurophysiology. Mr Robert Rathbone is the General Manager of the CSU. Dr Jonathan Bilmen is the Clinical Director and Ms Linda Hayward is the Business Manager for Neurology, Stroke and Neurophysiology.

There are currently 13 medical secretaries in the Neurology department and 4 clerical officers.
