Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced senior nurse leaders to join our team in the Centre for Neurosciences Clinical Service Unit, at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.

As a key member of our Senior Team you will have responsibility for contributing to our Leeds Way Values to ensure an outstanding experience for staff, patients, and their families. Working collaboratively with the Head of Nursing, General Manager and Clinical Director you will provide vision, inspiration, and professional leadership to nursing teams, promoting excellence in all areas of clinical practice and patient care

Working closely with our senior nurse leadership and operational teams you will support the development of innovative service models in line with the Trust's 7Cs annual commitments.

The Matron will ensure at all times that the patient is at the centre of all our actions and act as a role model for clinical staff.

The Matron has 24-hour accountability for the wards/departments/areas in Neurosciences for the efficient and effective operational management of the nursing workforce, guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence-based nursing practice.

Main duties of the job

The Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within the Centre for Neurosciences and be highly visible and accessible to patients and staff. Leading by example, the Matron will drive up and be the custodian of standards of clinical care. They must ensure that the essential components of care are right for every patient and guarantee clean wards and departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect, resolving problems for patients and relatives and ensuring high standards are maintained and delivered throughout the services they are responsible for.

They will have a responsibility to support the CSUs Clinical Governance and Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.

The Matron will contribute to identifying and managing issues of poor performance, risk and complaints. They will promote and share best practice and encourage personal development.

In undertaking the duties for this post the post holder must comply with the NMC Code at all times.The Matron will uphold and ensure the Trusts nursing values are implemented and monitored to provide assurance that nursing/clinical staff behave in a professional manner.

Within certain CSUs this will also include direct line management of the specialist nurses; the exact number of staff for whom the person has accountability will be clearly detailed within each role. JOB PURPOSE

The jobholder will have overall responsibility for the management of nursing/associated staff and the management of nursing resources/budgets with the Clinical Service Unit or a part of it. The jobholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the wards and departments for which they are responsible and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented at a local level. The jobholder will work in partnership with the facilities department in ensuring high standards of hospital cleanliness is maintained, embracing the principles outlined in the Matrons charter.

The jobholder will be easily identifiable to patients, provide strong leadership through a visible presence and provide support, advice and assistance required by patients, their families and carers. The jobholder will also support the implementation of a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), being a focal point for advice to patients and carers and local resolution of complaints.

In additional to site specific patches, Matron post may also have specific Trustwide elements (e.g. Lead Cancer Nurse). Within locality hospitals the role will also incorporate Hospital Site Management responsibility (e.g. hospital wide communication & Health & Safety).
