We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Associate Lead Clinician, Digital (Pharmacy) to play a key role in driving digital transformation across the Trusts Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services (MMPS).

This senior clinical digital role supports the development, optimisation, and safe use of digital systems that enable high-quality, efficient, and patient-centred medicines management. Working closely with senior leaders, pharmacy teams, digital and informatics colleagues, clinical services, operational managers, and external suppliers, the postholder will ensure pharmacy digital pathways align with Trust strategy, national digital priorities, and regulatory requirements.

As digital transformation across healthcare continues to accelerate, this role is central to ensuring safe and effective use of electronic systems supporting prescribing, medicines administration, decision support, stock management, and clinical documentation.

Contribution to Trust Strategy

This role directly supports delivery of key Trust priorities, including:

Safer prescribing and medicines administration in line with the NHS Patient Safety Strategy.

Improved operational efficiency through digital optimisation.

Enhanced patient experience through timely, accurate, and accessible digital medicines information.

Main duties of the job

Supports the design, implementation, and optimisation of digital pharmacy systems (e.g. EPMA, digital aseptic systems, automated dispensing systems, digital stock management, pharmacy robotics, CD management systems).

Influences Trust-wide digital governance to ensure medicines-related digital processes are clinically safe, operationally efficient, and compliant with legislation.

Supports service innovation and cultural change through effective digital adoption and user engagement.

Acts as a clinical digital expert for pharmacy, ensuring the MMPS vision aligns with national drivers such as:

Interoperability, Data Infrastructure & Secure Data Sharing / Analytics

Digitally Enabled, Personalised, Patient-Centred Care & Accessibility

Represent MMPS at digital boards, project groups, and clinical informatics forums.

Contribute to the design and configuration of digital medicines systems to support clinical workflows.

Ensure clinical safety and usability during build, updates, optimisation, and troubleshooting.

Provide expert clinical input into digital medicines pathways, ensuring they reflect best practice and local policy.

Support testing and release management for new system functionality or upgrades.

Assist Clinical Safety Officers (CSO) with hazard identification, risk assessment, testing, and safety case documentation in line with DCB0129 and DCB0160 standards

The post holder is employed by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and will work across and beyond all our hospital sites; St James University Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary, Chapel Allerton, Wharfedale and Seacroft Hospitals and Moor House.

The MMPS Clinical Services Unit (CSU) provides and leads comprehensive pharmaceutical and medicines management services to patients and staff of LTHT in accordance with all relevant standards and legislation.

The post holder is responsible for leadership within the pharmacy service (as described in the specific aspects of supplementary information) supporting the MMPS Lead Clinicians and working in partnership with other MMPS Associate Lead Clinicians and wider clinical and operational leads to deliver high quality services.

The post holder will support the delivery of high quality pharmacy and medicines optimisation services across LTHT and beyond, influencing the use of medicines across all LTHT CSUs and across the Leeds Place via care pathways and collaboration with colleagues in primary care.

The post holder will be a role model in the field of pharmacy practice and provide a consistently high quality pharmaceutical service in line with National initiatives and MMPS objectives. The post holder will provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters in their own specialist area and undertake risk management for this area.

Be responsible to the relevant MMPS Lead Clinician for the delivery of the pharmacy services (provided through the post holders areas of responsibility) across LTHT programmes of work and CSU delivery plans.

To include delivery of programmes of work informed by the NHS 10 year Strategic plan, the Trust Strategic Plan, the Hospital Pharmacy Transformation Plan and ensuring that this work is undertaken through the Leeds Improvement Methodology.

Being responsible to the relevant MMPS Lead Clinician ensure that the workforce under the post holders leadership is empowered, supported in development and succession planning and, trained in quality improvement methodology.
