We have an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Pharmacy Services Assistant who already holds an NVQ/QCF Level 2 Pharmacy Service Skills Certificate, and who have experience in either a hospital or community pharmacy setting, to join our forward thinking and generally all-round fantastic homecare team. This is an ever-growing area of pharmacy, LTH has over 16,000 patients registered on homecare services, receiving medicines delivered directly to their homes. We are constantly looking for improvement in smarter, leaner ways of working.

In this role, you will work with several homecare providers, and will collaborate with various multi-disciplinary teams, communicating effectively to ensure homecare services at LTH are provided to an exceptional standard.

Cross site working is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake a variety of duties in this job role. The main duty will be processing homecare prescriptions for both adult and paediatric patients across multiple therapy areas. This will include liaising with pharmacists, technicians, other healthcare professionals, and homecare providers on a daily basis - a good opportunity to build a wide variety of relationships.

You will work closely with the homecare invoicing team to help resolve invoice queries.

You will support the specialist technician and the homecare assistant practitioners with various aspects of homecare, including training new staff, implementing new homecare services, homecare processes and standard operating procedures. You will also support with audits, data collection, monitoring and maintaining pharmacy databases in relation to homecare services.

You will be a valued member of a supportive and caring team, working in a niche area of pharmaceutical patient care

Perform a variety of pharmacy support duties, some of which may be patient facing. These include stock management, dispensing and/or preparation of medicines in a designated area of MMPS which may include dispensary, aseptic facilities, warehouse and dispensary support rooms at ward level. The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rostered basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Level 2 Apprenticeship /Pharmacy Services Assistant or NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or Pharmacy Manufacturing Course.

Experience of working in a community or hospital pharmacy.

Knowledge of procedures of own working area following on the job training

Knowledge of good customer care.

Experience of stock control systems

Must have excellent verbal communication skills.

Ability to work accurately under pressure and follow standard operating procedures.

Good literacy and numeracy skills

Ability to interpret written instructions.

Developed computer skills

Ability to supervise and give instruction to Pharmacy Services Assistants and Porters and other staff as required

Labelling, dispensing and preparation of Controlled Drugs after training and competency assessment.

Day to day supervision of Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters to ensure service delivery in relevant area of MMPS

Support the Pharmacy Technicians in planning work rosters for the Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters

Support the Pharmacy Technicians with the delivery of service information and escalation within the team meetings

Provide induction and training for Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters

Involved in counselling patients on their medicines after training and competency assessment.

Accuracy checking of medicine stock orders after training and competency assessment.

Working accurately to dispense medicines, including labelling, preparation and assembly in a dispensary, warehouse or aseptic facility.

Stock management and replenishment of stock medicines at ward level (Top-ups)

Input of ward orders to produce a picking list for assembly of medicines.

Picking, packing, self-checking and despatch of medicines.

Provide support to the Pharmacy Technicians in all aspects of stock control, including stocktaking.

Assist in ordering processes for medicines and consumables, including ordering, unpacking, checking, booking in and putting away orders.

Communicating information to patients, colleagues, other health professionals and service users.

Perform reception and clerical tasks as required.

Ensure all medicines are distributed in a safe and secure manner following SOP.

Ensure waste is removed and disposed of correctly.
