Chapel Allerton Pharmacy department is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic Pharmacy Services Assistant to join the friendly, sociable team.

The successful candidate will undertake a NVQ level 2 qualification whilst training on the job over 12 - 15 month period. On completion of this qualification, the candidate will then be able to apply to progress to a Senior Pharmacy Services Assistant should they wish to do so.

Full training will be given in labelling and dispensing of medicines, ordering and stock maintenance, reception duties and supporting inpatient work on the wards and in theatres.

Our pharmacy department is friendly and supportive and we will fully support the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

Train to become a Senior Pharmacy Services Assistant over a 12-15 month period. Training will include:

Labelling and dispensing medicines for Outpatients and Inpatients following standard operating procedures including controlled drugs.

Reception duties.

Ordering, Stock receipt and stock counting.

Working on various computer systems.

Supporting the work on the wards including ward top ups using Omnicell robots, patient locker checks putting ward stock away.

Delivering medication to wards.

Job responsibilities

Train to be a Pharmacy Services Assistant over a 12-15 month period. undertaking a GPhC accredited Level 2 qualification.

To perform a variety of support duties within the medicines supply chain. These include stock receipt, stock counting & ordering (top-ups), medicines order assembly, and distribution. Stock control procedures and stocktaking.

There are no line management responsibilities. All duties are performed working to procedures, mostly under direct supervision. The jobholder will work as a member of a team of Support Workers. Although duties are generally rostered across the team, there may be changes in response to urgent demand, service cover etc.

The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis.

Working to relevant SOPs and undertaking a GPhC accredited Level 2 qualification

Required to work in dispensaries, stores, aseptic units and on wards/clinical areas

Receipt of consignments from suppliers, including checking and booking into the Pharmacy Computer System. Prompt reporting of discrepancies to the stores supervisor.

Deal with returned goods from customers and process paperwork according to SOPs. Includes processing and re-cycling unused medicines returned from wards.

Carry out routine stock control procedures. Ensure stock is located under correct storage conditions and continuous evaluation of stock levels, stock rotation and expiry dates is undertaken.

Perform necessary clerical tasks associated with the service. These may be manual but more routinely involve keyboard data entry onto the JAC system. This includes order entry, stock list maintenance & printing, issuing to correct cost centres.

Participate in regular stock-takes according to departmental procedures.

Contribute to the ward & department medicines top-up service.

Pick and pack orders for distribution, under supervision. Pack and process materials for sterilization.

Over-labelling of commercial packs.

Deliver medicines to wards and departments, ensuring compliance with Trust Medicines Management policies.

Maintenance of work areas and good housekeeping in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Operation of specialist equipment e.g. powered stacking equipment, aseptic tray washer, tablet packaging equipment etc

Cleaning aseptic facilities and equipment in accordance with SOPs

Transfer waste (pharmaceutical and household) to the appropriate collection points, according to procedures
