We are looking for a hardworking, dynamic, and enthusiastic individual to take part in an exciting training role within our Clinical Trials Pharmacy team here at Leeds Teaching Hospital.

Upon appointment, the successful candidate will complete a 12-15 month Level 2 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Service Skills with Buttercups Training, consisting of the NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills and the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science.

This qualification provides the skills and training required to start a fulfilling and successful career in pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

You will learn how to provide a variety of pharmacy support duties as part of a friendly and supportive dispensary team. These will include stock control, labelling, assembly, preparation, dispensing, receipt and distribution of pharmaceuticals including Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) used in Clinical Trials.

In this role you will work in our dedicated Clinical Trials dispensary with a team of technicians, pharmacists and assistants providing support services to the clinical trial research teams.

With over 350 different trials running at site you will get to experience a varied and unique workload, including suiting up in full PPE to handle biohazardous medicines, using ultra low temperature freezers, and dispensing medicines which may be being used for the very first time in humans!

This post is based at St Jamess University Hospital but you may also be required to work at Leeds General Infirmary and Chapel Allerton Hospital throughout your training to gain any required competencies.

To perform a variety of support duties within the medicines supply chain. These include stock receipt, stock counting & ordering (top-ups), medicines order assembly, and distribution. Stock control procedures and stocktaking.

There are no line management responsibilities. All duties are performed working to procedures, mostly under direct supervision. The jobholder will work as a member of a team of Support Workers. Although duties are generally rostered across the team, there may be changes in response to urgent demand, service cover etc.

Working to relevant SOPs and undertaking a GPhC accredited Level 2 qualification

Deal with returned goods from customers and process paperwork according to SOPs.

Carry out routine stock control procedures. Ensure stock is located under correct storage conditions and continuous evaluation of stock levels, stock rotation and expiry dates is undertaken

Maintenance of work areas and good housekeeping in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
