Due
to the progression of previous post holders and maternity leave, we have
exciting opportunities for ambitious, self-motivated and committed Pharmacy
Technicians who are registered with the GPhC or due to register within 6
months to join the Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services team at the
Leeds Teaching Hospitals supporting the ward support service.
Please
note the roles currently advertised include 2 substantive posts and 1
secondment/fixed term post. By applying you will be applying for all 3 posts.
You
will work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team who make a real
difference to patient care. By taking a patient first approach you will focus
on helping patients to optimise medicines. You will collaborate with other
teams, communicating effectively to ensure a safe, seamless integrated
transfer of care for patients.
Main duties of the job
Working
as part of a large multidisciplinary team, you will provide a service to our
inpatients at LTHT as well as patients attending clinics and receiving
homecare. Not only will you work within our own multidisciplinary team you
will also work alongside the wider teams such as nurses, doctors and
healthcare providers inside and outside of the trust.
One
of the main roles provided by our Pharmacy Technician Higher Levels in ward
services is the undertaking of medication histories. This will include
talking to patients and potentially relatives and careers.
There
will be opportunities to be involved with and potentially lead improvement
work to provide the best care for our patients and to grow and develop the
next generation of pharmacy professionals.
All
necessary training will be provided, and we will support you through a
structured learning pathway.
As
part of your role, you will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank
Holidays on a rotational basis. These posts could be based at Leeds General
Infirmary, St James Hospital or Chapel Allerton Hospital with cross site
working expected on occasion.
Ideally,
we are looking for full time, 37.5 hours a week however we do have a flexible
approach to the working hours.

Working
under guidance of SOPs, GMP, COSHH, the post holder will:-
Dispense
and issue medicines to patients ensuring that all the necessary information
is available.
Accurately
undertake medication histories.
Promote
medicines optimisation.
Dispense
clinical trial medication and complete all required documentation following
the defined Standard Operating Procedures.
Dispense
specialist hospital-only medicines and unlicensed medicines which require
accurate, detailed records.
Dispense
oral/IV chemotherapy medicines taking necessary precautions detailed in SOPs.
Dispense
controlled drugs and ensure that all legally required records are accurate
and up to date.
Ensure
that all information needed for accurate stock control and prescription
issues data is recorded.
Check
dispensed items for accuracy as an accredited checker.
Liaise
with Procurement staff about urgently required medicines, and informing
patients and other health care staff about supply problems / delays
Recover,
assess and re-cycle drugs dispensed to inpatients, ensuring that all
information needed for accurate stock control and prescription issues data is
recorded using the appropriate paper or electronic system.
Liaise
with medical staff and pharmacy ward teams to find out about new admissions,
discharges and transfers, to enable prioritisation of the Pharmacy service.
Answer
queries from nurses and other healthcare professional, within limit of
authority referring where required.
Promote
good communications between Pharmacy and Ward staff to ensure a safe,
efficient and cost-effective medicines service.
Provide
advice and information to patients on how to take their medicines effectively
and safely.
Assist
in the training of Pre-registration Technicians, Technicians, Pharmacy
Support Workers and pre-registration Pharmacists.
Participate
in recruitment and selection of junior technical staff
