inpatients in our hospital?
Our
busy, friendly dispensary team at St James hospital have a 12 month
secondment opportunity for a band 3 dispenser to join the team.
The
dispensary team work hard in a fast paced but supportive environment to
provide an excellent medicines supply service. You will be working with
pharmacists, technicians, and our ward teams dispensing medicines for our
patients.
The
role requires an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services and previous pharmacy
experience.
This
role is based in Inpatient Pharmacy at St James hospital and is full time
hours, (37.5 hours) Monday to Friday 9am - 5.30pm on a 12 months contract.
All
staff contributes to an 8pm evening shift every 5 weeks and a Saturday or
Sunday on a 1 in 4 rota.
Main duties of the job
The
role is varied and consists of all aspects of labelling and dispensing
medicines, including controlled drugs, discharge prescriptions, and inpatient
orders.
There
will also be some reception work, answering the phone, dealing with reception
and admin type tasks.
Some
stock maintenance and ordering of medicines will also be included in this
role.
The
successful candidate will join the friendly team at St James Inpatient
Pharmacy for a 12 month secondment contract.

Job responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
Perform a variety of pharmacy support duties, some of which may be patient facing. These include stock management, dispensing and/or preparation of medicines in a designated area of MMPS which may include dispensary, aseptic facilities, warehouse and dispensary support rooms at ward level. Day to day supervision of Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters to ensure service delivery in relevant area of MMPS
There may also be distribution duties including the movement of goods and a requirement for general housekeeping duties.
JOB DIMENSIONS
The post holder will not have any line management responsibilities. They will provide induction and training for Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters and other staff as required.
The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rostered basis.
The post holder will be required to travel to other sites for briefing meetings, training sessions and to support service provision.

Level 2 Apprenticeship /Pharmacy Services Assistant or NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or Pharmacy Manufacturing Course.
Experience of working in a community or hospital pharmacy.
Knowledge of procedures of own working area following on the job training
Knowledge of good customer care.
Experience of stock control systems
Must have excellent verbal communication skills.
Ability to work accurately under pressure and follow standard operating procedures.
Good literacy and numeracy skills
Ability to interpret written instructions.
Developed computer skills
Ability to supervise and give instruction to Pharmacy Services Assistants and Porters and other staff as required.
