Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacist, with an interest in clinical trials, to join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team. A background in clinical trials is not essential as full training will be provided to develop the knowledge and skills to succeed in this post.

This post will primarily be based at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) where research active areas include cardiology, neurosciences, paediatric medicine and paediatric oncology. It is an exciting time as work is currently underway on developing two new state of the art hospitals with plans to create a world class hub for innovation. This will support the growing number of early phase studies and ATIMPs (Advanced Therapy Investigational Medicinal Products) especially within paediatrics.

In your clinical trials role, you will work as part of the trials team setting-up new studies and contributing to the on-going management of established trials. You will be required to work collaboratively with pharmacy colleagues, research teams and external trial Sponsors to ensure that trials are set up in a timely manner and managed in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

The post holder will also provide a clinical commitment as part of the LGI Adult Clinical Pharmacy Team.

Main duties of the job

The main duties for staff working in this role are:

To ensure the validation and processing of clinical trial prescriptions meet the needs of patients, the Trust and complies with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements

To support the existing clinical trials pharmacists in the review of new clinical trials.

To identify and address the medicines management issues relating to proposed trials prior to the confirmation of pharmacy support

With the support of the clinical trials team, to proactively manage each trial through the set up process - including checking dispensing procedures, setting up trial specific electronic prescribing templates and assisting in aseptic setup of trials where appropriate.

To review and process protocol amendments and other related documents

To liaise with the research teams about key study priorities to ensure that Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services support them in achieving their recruitment targets.

To deliver training to and support development of Foundation and Trainee Pharmacists in all aspects of clinical trials and investigational medicinal product (IMP) management.

To contribute to service development, quality improvement, projects in line with the Leeds Improvement Method.
