Job summary

Applicants are invited for a posts as Junior Clinical Fellows (ST1-2 equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a friendly, dynamic, large, teaching acute hospital trust.

The post holder will work at a level equivalent to that of a ST1-2 trainee. Applicants must have completed Foundation competencies either as part of the UK Foundation programme or demonstrate equivalent training. Basic Life Support training is essential.

Candidates will require current valid GMC registration at the time of application.

Main duties of the job

The above post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at an ST1+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post offers the successful candidate a wide range of experience in all areas of the specialty. Whilst this post is not recognised for training, the appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet their career and educational goals.

There will be opportunities to develop special interests in the following areas:

Maternal Medicine / Fetal monitoring: The successful candidate will have the opportunity to get involved in the several specialised maternal medicine clinics which take place across both hospitals. These are run by specialists in the field and include diabetes, endocrinology, haematology, cardiology, gastro-intestinal and rheumatology. In addition s/he will be invited to participate in the regular MDT meetings as well getting involved and leading QI projects and teaching in the area.

The FM team consists of two obstetricians and two midwives who are responsible for the teaching, assessment and clinical governance around fetal monitoring. The successful candidate will help within this team, while also getting involved in local and regional discussions around FM teaching and standards.

The post holder will also be encouraged to take part in departmental teaching and quality improvement work.

About us

The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing) and some elective gynaecology work including clinics, day case and overnight theatre and hysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdale hospital.

The fertility service is based at Seacroft Hospital.

The maternity service is based at St James University Hospital (approximately 4,500 deliveries per year) and Leeds General Infirmary (approximately 5,200 deliveries per year).

Whilst this is not a training post, our department strives to maintain a balance between training and clinical commitments. The large volume of complex patients seen ensures that the post holder will get exposure to a wide variety of clinical conditions in Leeds.
