Job summary
We
are looking to recruit a higher specialist paediatric trainee to join the team
from March 2026 for a period of 6 months with the opportunity to extend
further. On call duties will be on the general paediatric HST rota. This is a
busy tertiary service for paediatric nephrology covering a catchment population
of over 1 million children from ethnically diverse backgrounds. The doctor in
training would gain experience in in all areas of the Paediatric Nephrology
Speciality Curriculum including management of Acute Kidney Injury (peritoneal
dialysis, haemodialysis & continuous Ven venous haemodialysis/filtration)
and chronic kidney disease (pre-dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis
& transplantation ~ 12 paediatric transplants/yr). General paediatric renal
services include the investigation and management of children with: Nephrotic/
Nephritic syndrome; urinary tract infection and congenital anomalies of the
urinary tract; renovascular disease / hypertension; renal tubular &
metabolic disorders & renal stone disease.

Main duties of the job
The
daytime role will be primarily based on the paediatric Nephrology ward (L50).
The post holder will be involved in the day to day management of inpatients and
take part in outpatient clinics. The post-holder will have the opportunity to
participate in medical audit and
local/multi-centre research projects.
The
out of hours commitments will include working covering the general paediatric
wards and working on the acute Childrens assessment and treatment (CAT) unit
which receives referrals from GPs, Paediatric Emergency department, community
nurses/midwives. The registrar will be outlining the management plan and
overlooking the patient flow. You will also be required to assist in preparing
discharge letters, Initiation/change of treatment and discussions with
relatives

- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practice from, the GMC at intended start date
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent by intended start date
- Is up to date and fit to practice safely and is aware of own training needs.
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
