Paediatric Neurology Fellow

Job summary

The post is for a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Neurology and is particularly suited to someone hoping to gain more paediatric neurology experience prior to entering speciality training and considering some out of programme experience. The post will be based at Leeds Childrens Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary. The successful candidate will join the team of Paediatric Neurologists in providing tertiary Paediatric Neurology services for Leeds and West Yorkshire.

The department of paediatric neurosciences provides services to the children of West, East and North Yorkshire together with NE Lincolnshire, serving a population of 1 million children from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Inpatient services are based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital within a dedicated paediatric neurosciences unit, where children are jointly cared for by paediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons. There are strong links with all other paediatric subspecialties co-located in the Childrens Hospital including the regional neonatal and paediatric intensive care units.

Main duties of the job

Inpatient

Support inpatients under the paediatric neuroscience teams (neurology and neurosurgery).

Review of acute consultations in Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, general paediatric and other co-located specialities.

Attendance and participation at departmental MDTs.

Organisation and follow-up of inpatient and outpatient investigations.

On call cover

As a senior trainee the post holder would be expected to hold the hospital arrest bleep as per rota.

Out of hour cover either general paediatric assessment unit or inpatients (including paediatric diabetes, rheumatology, endocrinology) or paediatric specialities (Neurosciences, Hepatology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Oncology & Haematology).

Outpatient

Undertake outpatient clinics along-side a supervising Consultant Paediatric Neurologist with appropriate supervision and admin support.

Governance

Participation and attendance in departmental governance meetings and programme.

Teaching

Participation and attendance at the departmental rolling teaching programme.

Delivering teaching sessions to the hospital lower speciality teaching programme.

About us

There are 6 Consultant Paediatric Neurologists (Dr Anne-Marie Childs, Dr Karen Pysden, Dr Helen McCullagh, Dr Lydia Green, Dr Munni Ray and Dr Micheal Taylor), Dr Cristina Martos-Lozano a Consultant Paediatrician with expertise in Paediatric Neuromuscular disorders and 4 Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeons (Mr John Goodden, Mr Atul Tyagi, Mr Gnanamurthy Sivakumar and Ms Rebecca Chave-Cox).

The paediatric neuroscience team benefit from the support of neuroradiology, neurophysiology, neuropathology and genetics services.

Neurology subspecialty clinics are provided in neuromuscular, epilepsy, VNS, ketogenic diet, Dravet, TS clinics, neurovascular, headache and for those with acquired and inherited white matter disorders.

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
  • Membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent
