Job summary
The routine work includes care of patients in
the Leeds General Infirmary, with exposure to theatre lists and out-patient
clinics. Training opportunities and needs will be overseen by their supervising
consultant
Main duties of the job
The post is full time and the appointee will be
expected to take part in the Resident out of hours rota(1:10 rolling pattern
including night shifts). The majority of the out of hours involves general
Paediatric surgery, Neonatal surgery and Trauma. The candidate will therefore
be expected to have competencies in the management of the sick child and a
range of acute and elective work preferably with some training or experience in
Paediatric Surgery. Equivalent generic experience and competencies through paediatrics
or emergency medicine for example will also be considered favourably.
About us
The
Trust Grade Dr in Paediatric Surgery is based at the Leeds General Infirmary in
West Yorkshire. This role is suitable for applicants who have experience in
paediatrics and neonatology, or those with a desire to be involved in
paediatric and neonatal surgery in the future. It is ideally suited to
candidates wishing to work in a large teaching hospital which provides many
specialist services and for anyone wishing gain experience in various
sub-specialties of paediatric surgery.
The
department provides exposure to all surgical aspects of children ranging from 0
16 years. This includes general surgery of childhood as well as highly
specialised services for thoracic/upper GI surgery, colorectal surgery,
hepatobiliary surgery, oncology surgery, neonatal surgery and urology. There
are 17 consultants within the department providing elective specialty work and
consultants participate in acute on call providing separate general surgery,

- Basic/intermediate paediatric life support (will be delivered on enrolment)

- MRCS (partial or complete) or equivalent particularly MRCPCH
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
Experience
