This
is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Trauma &
Orthopaedic Surgeon. This post will be available from April for a period of 12
months.
This
post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic
team (Mr Davies, Ms Deriu, Miss Fishlock, Mr Foster, Mr Holton & Mr
Sabouni).
The
post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary. There may be opportunity to
provide an outreach service as part of the hub and spoke model in place across
West Yorkshire.
The
successful applicant should hold FRCS (Trauma & Orth) or equivalent
qualification and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of
being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training
programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the
Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants
should have established skills in General Paediatric Trauma &
Orthopaedics. Excellent communication
and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service
development are essential.

Main duties of the job
The
post-holder will provide a key role in developing and delivering the paediatric
orthopaedic service, improving outcomes for our patients. As a natural hub for Yorkshire and with
excellent connections to all parts of the North of England, we have worked hard
to bring a logical alignment to patient services within the well-equipped
childrens hospital.
The
appointed candidate will join a dedicated, consultant lead, multidisciplinary
team working closely with general Trauma and Orthopaedic and Major Trauma
Centre surgeons to provide excellent patient care. Leeds has one of the largest
major trauma centres with a high volume of paediatric orthopaedic trauma.
In
relation to this post, the post holder will provide support to the Paediatric
Trauma and Orthopaedics team. It will
therefore ensure the service is able to continue in its pursuit to provide the
best levels of care for patients accessing the service on both a trauma and
elective basis.

The
Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic service continues to grow and develop. Leeds General Infirmary opened as a level 1
trauma centre on 2 April 2013. Due to
its regional remit, it provides responsibility of care to a population of
almost 3 million. The support
encompasses all aspects of trauma care, including attendance at trauma
meetings, co-ordination and prioritisation of patient care, and emergency
admissions as well as emergency operating.
The trauma on call Consultant also includes a daily combined ward round
with a multi-disciplinary team on the paediatric orthopaedic ward.

and spoke model at one of the District General Hospitals within West Yorkshire.
