SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHETICS (ST6-7 EQUIVALENT)
We are inviting applications to fill our Senior Clinical Fellow vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Anaesthesia.
This post will commence as soon as possible and is fixed term for two years.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have regular training lists across a broad spectrum of specialties as mutually agreed at interview and will be expected to contribute to the out of hours service by being part of the on-call team alongside the anaesthetic trainees. All out of hours call rotas are compliant with European Working Time Directive legislation and the 2016 contract. When not working out of hours, successful applicants will have a mixture of consultant supervised and solo lists (where appropriate).
LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The successful candidate will mainly have supervised theatre lists with consultant trainers, but it is envisaged that the candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own confidence in their areas of interest and work with local supervision independently.
The successful applicant will have a named consultant Educational Supervisor and undergo regular appraisal and actively take part in the GMC revalidation process. During these meetings any specific training requirements and educational goals can be defined.
TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING
The post can provide the applicant experience in anaesthetic subspecialty blocks not available in most hospitals subject to availability. We have a strong track record of supporting doctors through the portfolio pathway, if successful applicants wished to pursue this route, we will be fully supportive and facilitate access to all training modules required.

There is an excellent range of postgraduate medical activities at Leeds Teaching Hospitals directed by the PGME centre which has bases at both the Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals is the main provider of postgraduate training in Anaesthesia in the West Yorkshire region. As such we have extensive experience of supporting and preparing trainees in their professional goals of achieving the FRCA examinations and securing consultant positions. We have a highly skilled and motivated consultant body who maintain a strong interest in teaching, training and examining, and this culture will be of benefit to those wishing to complete FRCA examinations.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals is the principal teaching hospital for the Medical School at the University of Leeds and the post holder will be encouraged to participate fully in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date.
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
- Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. OR
- Achieved minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application -
- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5) OR
- Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application

- Minimum of 72 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice; including:
- make the care or your patient your first concern provide a good standard of practice and care take prompt action if you think that patient safety, dignity or comfort is being compromised
- protect and promote the health of patients and of the public treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity work in partnership with patients
- work with colleagues in the ways that best serve patients interests be honest and open and act with integrity never discriminate unfairly against patients or colleagues
- 12 months Experience working within the NHS in Anaesthesia within the last 3 years
- Evidence of minimum of 5 years Anaesthetic training (within or outside the UK)
- Minimum of 6 months of Obstetric Anaesthesia Experience
- Evidence of completion of IAC and IAOC or equivalent Stage 2 sign off on LLP

- Ability to demonstrate relevant competencies through SLE or WBA or comparable evidence
